00:00:00:08 - 00:00:11:13 Speaker 1 And he goes into a lot of pop stuff. Basically, I'm aware of pop music because it's in the shadows. But other than that, I don't have as much music stuff aside, like I need to check that out. 00:00:11:16 - 00:00:17:05 Speaker 2 So it's awesome. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. 00:00:18:10 - 00:00:23:03 Speaker 3 You know what else is it? Yeah. Well, hey there, everybody. 00:00:24:07 - 00:00:27:10 Speaker 2 Welcome to Pixelate. 00:00:27:19 - 00:00:30:17 Speaker 3 Speaking of dumb, these are just getting dumber as I do. 00:00:30:18 - 00:00:36:03 Speaker 1 I always just though you said it, not me. 00:00:37:05 - 00:00:40:13 Speaker 3 Well, welcome. Welcome to the Offspring. Fancast. 00:00:40:21 - 00:00:41:10 Speaker 2 Yeah. Yeah. 00:00:42:21 - 00:00:46:04 Speaker 1 Welcome to. We're pretty fly for. 00:00:46:23 - 00:00:49:08 Speaker 3 We're pretty fly for a pod guy. 00:00:49:09 - 00:00:50:08 Speaker 1 For our podcast. 00:00:52:01 - 00:00:52:09 Speaker 2 Yep. 00:00:53:18 - 00:00:55:00 Speaker 3 That's it. Good night. 00:00:55:02 - 00:01:04:12 Speaker 1 You know, we put in we put in a good, like, you know, 18 months of this shit. We think we did everything that we could. 00:01:04:18 - 00:01:05:13 Speaker 3 To wrap it up. 00:01:06:02 - 00:01:07:14 Speaker 1 And even that 14 months, it was. 00:01:07:14 - 00:01:12:08 Speaker 3 14 months in. And I think we we hit we hit rock bottom right then we did it. 00:01:12:08 - 00:01:13:21 Speaker 1 We hit the bottom. We hit the hit. 00:01:13:21 - 00:01:18:02 Speaker 3 I think we hit the bottom. We got through we got through the crust and into. 00:01:18:02 - 00:01:21:17 Speaker 2 The it's into the rainbow sphere. Yeah, the. 00:01:22:14 - 00:01:45:18 Speaker 3 The dum dum. Yeah, I know we're talking, we're talking infinity blade too because we did infinity blade one last week, so it only stand to reason that we would follow it up with number two. So Phil, can you can you give us a little recap of what what the hell happens in Infinity Blade part one? 00:01:46:20 - 00:01:54:04 Speaker 1 You mean? You mean aside from Brandon Sanderson, like, really just overwriting the fuck out of this? Yeah. 00:01:54:06 - 00:02:06:05 Speaker 3 So from that ninja advanced game. Yeah. And aside from Brandon Sanderson, worldbuilding the deepest lure ever for Fruit Ninja Knights and Wizards edition. 00:02:06:11 - 00:02:06:23 Speaker 1 Right? 00:02:07:16 - 00:02:11:11 Speaker 2 Pretty much so. 00:02:12:07 - 00:02:43:19 Speaker 1 In in the first part of Infinity Blade Awakening, we find a small town and this little town full of people, they are being they are dealing with what they believe is the the new leadership basically out with the old within, with a new this really greedy dude who used to be a tax collector who claims that he is has been chosen and smiled upon by the what do they call him? 00:02:44:04 - 00:02:46:06 Speaker 3 The God, the God king. 00:02:46:15 - 00:03:12:07 Speaker 1 The God king. That's right. And he starts basically bullying his way into a position of power. When the people start pushing back a little bit, he gets ready to start laying the smack down. But our young hero comes in and basically tells them to kick. Sam, get the fuck out of here. You are not welcome here. We find out that he has defeated the God king. 00:03:12:07 - 00:03:40:06 Speaker 1 Basically, we are in the the in the end we are after the end of beating the game. So for all intents and purposes, this is a bit of a sequel. He has returned. No one expected him to win. He's been raised since birth to be a sacrifice, essentially, just as everyone in his family, generation after generation, have been raised to go and fight the God King. 00:03:40:06 - 00:04:01:02 Speaker 1 Only he's the only one who ever came back. And he basically gets told by the town's, Yeah, he wins. He doesn't know what to do with himself anymore. He does decide that he's going to start keeping a list of things that he likes which good call, kid. All he literally has ever been had. All he's ever done is is trained. 00:04:01:02 - 00:04:09:19 Speaker 1 He's like, think about it, Olympian. But times ten and with a whole lot more murder not all the murder, but more more. 00:04:09:19 - 00:04:11:13 Speaker 3 Murder than your typical Olympian. 00:04:11:18 - 00:04:14:19 Speaker 1 More than average for an Olympian. Yeah. Yeah. 00:04:14:20 - 00:04:16:15 Speaker 2 And it's just. 00:04:17:00 - 00:04:41:11 Speaker 1 He's thinking he wants to eat pie. And, you know, there are vague thoughts of a girlfriend and all that shit you hope a kid would do. After Johnny comes marching home again, that kind of thing. And but the townspeople, basically, the powers that be, tell him you got to get the hell out of here, because they believe that the these these figures, the undying figures, that debt are all deathless. 00:04:41:11 - 00:04:44:16 Speaker 1 The deathless I keep calling the undying, the deathless. 00:04:44:16 - 00:04:49:03 Speaker 3 The undying is is another distinct intellectual property. 00:04:49:11 - 00:04:52:18 Speaker 1 Yes. Clive Barker's involved in that one, I believe. 00:04:54:18 - 00:04:56:13 Speaker 2 But yeah. Yeah, he, he, he thinks. 00:04:56:13 - 00:05:17:06 Speaker 1 That they think that he's, that they're going to come for the infinity blade so they're going to come and wreck the town. So he's basically been forced to leave. He says goodbye to his mother, who makes him a peach cobbler, writes in his notes. Note to self love, love, love, peach cobbler. The main character in Infinity Blade is Southern. 00:05:17:06 - 00:05:17:21 Speaker 1 It's Cannes. 00:05:18:09 - 00:05:23:02 Speaker 3 Southern. Yeah, he's. He eats grits and peach cobbler and. 00:05:24:22 - 00:05:48:09 Speaker 1 He and he heads out and he he decides he's going to go back to the place that he fought the God King so they can't trace him back to the the village. He wants to keep them safe and everything. Long story short, he ends up making his way back into that area. He finds, like all kinds of technology. 00:05:48:10 - 00:06:07:03 Speaker 1 He gets a little like he meets a 40 year old troll. He gets his life threatened by a bandit in there, and he's just getting all the way back into trouble and realizing he did not, in fact, fully kill the God king. So he decides, I've got to actually I might actually have to go ahead and do that. 00:06:07:14 - 00:06:23:23 Speaker 1 So he is getting back on that wagon, so to speak. Long story short. And when we last left off, he had basically decided he was going to tie up his who's the who's the the companion, the thief companion. 00:06:23:23 - 00:06:25:15 Speaker 3 Lisa. Yes. 00:06:26:01 - 00:06:49:06 Speaker 1 Who is she's a she's a she's basically a bandit. A thief. She has betrayed him on several occasions. And he wants her help, but he doesn't. At the same time, in any case, if she's going to keep coming along with him, he basically has to tie her up sexy, sexy every time he's going to throw up camp or something like that. 00:06:49:10 - 00:07:15:04 Speaker 1 He does not trust her. And so we are in the thick of it. We also get a glimpse into the God King and basically how this is clearly a world that is in the distant future, at very least, that that, you know, we talked about in the last episode, kind of that Asimov's style quote of, you know, anything that we can't understand and technologically is indistinguishable to magic. 00:07:15:12 - 00:07:17:12 Speaker 1 That's what we're dealing with a lot of. Yeah. 00:07:17:20 - 00:07:22:23 Speaker 3 That's yeah, we got man we got we got machines and robots and all right. 00:07:23:08 - 00:07:50:22 Speaker 1 You've got a, quote unquote magic mirror and it's a monitor. Yeah, that sort of thing. Ambrose Yeah, yeah. And so the, the God King has awakened again, and our hero has given him a bit of a fright because it's the closest he's ever come to actually dying. Dying, as opposed to just, you know, dying long enough for his resurrection chamber to bring him back and for the whole cycle to start all over again. 00:07:51:12 - 00:08:02:15 Speaker 1 So that's where we are thrills, chills, spills, betrayal. And a guy who keeps dying and coming back from the dead. It is it is a modern day Easter story, really? 00:08:02:15 - 00:08:05:18 Speaker 3 Yeah. Yeah, he is is is Jesus. 00:08:06:11 - 00:08:10:14 Speaker 1 He's Jesus. That's. That's the thing. That's that's what this infinite, infinite. 00:08:10:14 - 00:08:15:00 Speaker 3 That's that's the infinite his. The Alpha and the omega. 00:08:15:07 - 00:08:15:14 Speaker 2 Yeah. 00:08:16:03 - 00:08:19:01 Speaker 1 We got news for you people. Good news. 00:08:19:20 - 00:08:22:01 Speaker 2 Yeah, it's. 00:08:22:01 - 00:08:27:02 Speaker 1 It's it's that that that you got a cool sword. You don't have to die. That's. That's good news. 00:08:27:13 - 00:09:01:01 Speaker 3 That's the good news. So except it's chapter five, and things are hella awkward between Cyrus and Issa now, to say the least. And they're walking along and they realize that they should probably they need to change course because he the knights are out looking for him. There's people out looking. They've realized that shit has hit the fan. People are aware that the sacrificed did not sacrifice himself. 00:09:02:08 - 00:09:04:15 Speaker 2 Yet. 00:09:04:15 - 00:09:08:06 Speaker 1 So it's it's right there in his name. 00:09:08:06 - 00:09:28:19 Speaker 3 You're right there in his name. It's a thing is supposed to be it's the one thing that he is supposed to do one thing. So they change the course and during their their little trip around through the other side of the island, Cyrus begins trying out things that he would like to do and he starts doing a rope swing. 00:09:28:19 - 00:09:32:00 Speaker 3 And Issa or Issa calls him a child. 00:09:32:00 - 00:09:34:14 Speaker 1 And the kind of is, though, I mean, he. 00:09:34:14 - 00:09:35:21 Speaker 3 Kind of is basically. 00:09:35:21 - 00:09:36:15 Speaker 2 Yeah, you think. 00:09:36:18 - 00:09:41:16 Speaker 1 He is at this point he can't be that old. Like I figured he 70 years old is. 00:09:41:16 - 00:10:07:21 Speaker 3 Yeah, he's like 20 ish ready to assume I think the number 20 is thrown around somewhere else. Okay. And one of the moments Cyrus notices there's like lands just on the other side of the hill that dreams more is in that is like perfect for farming and like having a self-sustaining, like, town or village. And he's like, Oh, like this. 00:10:08:03 - 00:10:19:23 Speaker 3 The people have drums out. Like, all they know is this horrible cave life where they mined stalagmites, but they could be living out in the sun. And he's like, That's a bummer. 00:10:19:23 - 00:10:20:17 Speaker 2 Yeah, yeah. 00:10:21:20 - 00:10:26:04 Speaker 1 Surely this won't come back. We will. We won't revisit that idea. I'm sure that. 00:10:26:15 - 00:10:42:23 Speaker 3 We won't come. Yeah. Issa then mentions that they get into a discussion about how the concept of honor is a method that the rich and powerful use to keep the poor down. And I was like, That's an interesting thought. 00:10:43:12 - 00:10:45:09 Speaker 1 It's a very interesting thought. 00:10:47:00 - 00:10:58:14 Speaker 3 She's like, is like, I mean, the duels like the one on one duel is, is it's like bullshit. Like you had if you guys just rose up, they couldn't stop you. 00:10:58:14 - 00:11:21:00 Speaker 1 We got. Are we are we? I don't here's the thing, Kevin. I don't I feel like we're being too I think we're reading too much into this because I have been informed several times by very learned men on the Internet that fantasy is meant to be just that, that it isn't meant to draw any metaphors from real life or anything like that. 00:11:21:00 - 00:11:23:23 Speaker 1 So I feel like we might be going in too hard on this one. 00:11:24:05 - 00:11:33:12 Speaker 3 Yeah, I think this might be we might be reading into polity books that aren't in there. I think that's. That's our bad, everybody. 00:11:33:12 - 00:11:34:12 Speaker 1 It's my guys. 00:11:34:22 - 00:11:42:23 Speaker 3 Sorry, it's. The character is not actually saying anything of substance in terms of political policy and. 00:11:44:13 - 00:11:47:10 Speaker 1 Observe as I thoughtfully stroke my chin. 00:11:47:19 - 00:11:56:11 Speaker 3 Mm mm. Yeah. So good book. Just ignore the strike that strike that from the record. Issa softens it, but doesn't. 00:11:56:11 - 00:11:56:21 Speaker 1 Doubt. 00:11:56:22 - 00:11:59:22 Speaker 3 She says it. She says it, but she doesn't mean it. She's not. 00:12:00:01 - 00:12:01:12 Speaker 2 Honor. She's just joke. 00:12:01:17 - 00:12:06:06 Speaker 3 She's just joking. Guys, honor is totally cool. You know what else is cool? The status quo. 00:12:06:10 - 00:12:08:19 Speaker 1 Yeah, yeah. You know what else is cool? Being rich. 00:12:09:05 - 00:12:14:13 Speaker 3 As rich? The status quo. Keep it, keep this, keep that status quo. 00:12:14:13 - 00:12:15:17 Speaker 2 Keep it going, baby. 00:12:16:01 - 00:12:19:01 Speaker 3 Keep it going, baby. Things can only get better. 00:12:19:04 - 00:12:21:08 Speaker 1 Drill, baby, drill, drill, baby. 00:12:21:08 - 00:12:36:08 Speaker 3 You, by the way. And this is like this is like this is coming out months after it happens or a month after it happened. But the video of Dick Cheney. 00:12:36:08 - 00:12:37:14 Speaker 1 Calling, oh, my God. 00:12:37:22 - 00:12:48:01 Speaker 3 Donald Trump, the worst thing to ever happen to democracy is, whew, boy. I mean that is that the irony is is annihilating. 00:12:48:12 - 00:13:08:10 Speaker 1 Like I feel like you know every now and then when you're especially when you're younger and you read these kind of weird, epic fantasies like Lord of the Rings and shit, you go, Oh, maybe one day I'll live to see a huge war between good and evil. I didn't know I was going to live to see a point where there would be a war between demons and more demons. 00:13:08:17 - 00:13:10:15 Speaker 2 Yeah, that's basically. 00:13:10:15 - 00:13:11:06 Speaker 3 Diablo. 00:13:11:16 - 00:13:12:10 Speaker 2 This is exact. 00:13:12:10 - 00:13:18:11 Speaker 1 Yeah, exactly. It's a war of hell as Mobius and Belial. And like the whole fucking Blair. 00:13:18:18 - 00:13:22:02 Speaker 3 Belial is calling ass Madea is the worst thing to ever. 00:13:23:15 - 00:13:24:00 Speaker 2 Tell. 00:13:29:07 - 00:13:30:12 Speaker 1 A guy's life. 00:13:31:19 - 00:14:10:14 Speaker 3 So, yeah, they they basically. And then Cyrus says he thinks the only thing he points out that the the deathless cannot be gods because otherwise he wouldn't have been able to beat the God. And he thinks their only power is knowledge, which is like, dun dun dun he's he's getting on the same Adonis, he's on to something and then they hear somebody screaming because a few moments earlier it's been like, Hey, that's a perfect ambush spot. 00:14:10:20 - 00:14:15:10 Speaker 3 And yeah. 00:14:15:10 - 00:14:16:09 Speaker 1 Oh, look, a threat. 00:14:17:23 - 00:14:32:12 Speaker 3 And somebody got ambushed at that ambush spot that she pointed out. And so in Chapter six, Cyrus runs in to the confrontation, even though he says, like, you probably shouldn't. 00:14:32:12 - 00:14:45:18 Speaker 1 Yeah, I love that. She literally tells him, like, Hey, you probably should just run right into this whole thing. We want to keep your nice and alive to fight the God King. And he goes by. I'm just Leroy Jenkins leverage. 00:14:46:13 - 00:14:48:01 Speaker 3 You went right into it. 00:14:48:18 - 00:14:49:18 Speaker 1 Right it does. 00:14:49:19 - 00:14:51:20 Speaker 2 Leave Rory. 00:14:57:05 - 00:14:58:19 Speaker 3 So for you kids at home, Leroy. 00:14:58:19 - 00:15:02:17 Speaker 2 Jenkins. 00:15:02:17 - 00:15:05:00 Speaker 1 Everybody remember. Wow. How about that? 00:15:06:04 - 00:15:08:09 Speaker 3 Remember? Well, yeah, some people are still playing it. 00:15:08:23 - 00:15:11:14 Speaker 1 I'm still playing that fucking game. Jesus. 00:15:11:23 - 00:15:19:01 Speaker 3 Yeah. Fucking tender. And they're still making it like a YouTube channel dedicated to it. Still. 00:15:19:09 - 00:15:27:13 Speaker 1 Good Lord. I mean, look, every now and then I get the urge. I used to play that game a lot, and I just. Oh, man, I got it's I can't invest. 00:15:27:13 - 00:15:32:13 Speaker 3 And they added they added Carender as an NPC. Oh by the way. 00:15:32:13 - 00:15:33:20 Speaker 1 On that's a. 00:15:34:04 - 00:15:34:12 Speaker 2 Thing. 00:15:35:19 - 00:15:44:21 Speaker 1 Sorry I'm just having like my nerdy favorite you know, twitch streamer flashbacks back when I actually watched that shit. 00:15:44:22 - 00:15:47:07 Speaker 3 So for the kids at home, Carender is. 00:15:47:15 - 00:15:50:08 Speaker 2 Oh wow. 00:15:50:08 - 00:15:56:21 Speaker 3 Streamer. And he is known for being good friends with Jesse Cox and they have podcast together. 00:15:57:09 - 00:15:57:16 Speaker 2 Yeah. 00:15:59:05 - 00:16:01:21 Speaker 1 Oh, my God. That really does need to be explained. 00:16:01:21 - 00:16:12:07 Speaker 3 So I need any applause and explain. You said about the 40 year old streamers that are in existence. 00:16:12:13 - 00:16:34:00 Speaker 1 It's like it's already weird enough that we're a part of a demographic, an age demographic where we have to explain certain things about cartridge games or analog games and shit like that. But we're actually we're old enough that we will actually. It's not that we're old enough. It's that the audience is potentially young enough that we even have to go. 00:16:34:00 - 00:16:46:05 Speaker 1 Well, back in the day, there was a twitch streamer that you've never heard of because you're too young and oops, I hanged myself. Yeah, that happened. 00:16:47:06 - 00:16:54:11 Speaker 3 That happened. Oh, boy. Yeah, that's a whole separate thing is. 00:16:54:17 - 00:16:55:11 Speaker 1 The whole thing. 00:16:57:01 - 00:17:02:11 Speaker 3 The streamers from our from our era, they're still around. 00:17:02:11 - 00:17:04:09 Speaker 1 It's just. They're still around. They're still doing their thing. 00:17:04:10 - 00:17:15:01 Speaker 3 They're still doing their thing. Yeah. Yeah. Um, where was I? Oh, yeah. Cyrus runs in like Leroy. That's how we got there. 00:17:15:10 - 00:17:21:02 Speaker 2 Leroy Jenkins. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. 00:17:22:01 - 00:17:41:22 Speaker 3 He. Leroy Jenkins is right into a pack a day. Rebels and he, he ends up, uh, it's a pack for Daryl's Isa ends up having to save him, and then from the last one, she drowns one of them like Jesus Christ. Isa. 00:17:42:14 - 00:17:45:00 Speaker 2 Oh, okay. 00:17:45:01 - 00:17:47:16 Speaker 1 We're we're we'll be drownings. Okay? There will be. 00:17:47:16 - 00:18:31:16 Speaker 3 Drownings. And then another pack of seven day rails attack and they fight back to back for a while. And meanwhile, Cyrus is having dark thoughts from the sword. He believes they're from the sword anyway. And she's learning. He's remembering all these ways to, like, fight against groups that aren't the he just forms the one on one duel combat battles and Isa gets stabbed in the in the stomach by one of the day rolls after he like as he's killing them off she she falls and the so she's she's dying in the water right and basically the the Gollum the thing that they saved was a Gollum. 00:18:32:14 - 00:18:41:15 Speaker 3 It was basically that has basically been following them this entire time. And he's like, do something. And the Gollum, like, do I have to? 00:18:41:23 - 00:18:42:15 Speaker 2 Yeah, yeah. 00:18:43:02 - 00:18:47:10 Speaker 1 You you I don't I mean, I don't feel like that's necessary. 00:18:48:10 - 00:19:14:16 Speaker 3 Should I be? So the Gollum. The Gollum. The Gollum does happen too. No surgery and basically stitches up his innards and gets them back inside of her and then sews her up nicely and she's she'll make it, you know, she'll be fine. But yeah, there's it's this Gollum named tell. Tell. Yeah. 00:19:15:00 - 00:19:16:16 Speaker 1 Oh. Name by the way. I like that. 00:19:17:06 - 00:19:48:10 Speaker 3 Yeah it is. It works for one of the death lists and it was, it is able to shapeshift based on the material around it. So when they first find it, it has like it's using bamboo as it's like construct, like constructed form and then it switches over to like a rock form and picks and is able to pick up and carry her while they, like, move out of the area. 00:19:49:03 - 00:20:19:16 Speaker 3 All right. Yeah. So tell keeps. He keeps asking. Cyrus keeps asking. Tell like what? What's going on? What? What are just break down tells like. I can't tell you, man. And finally he asks what a what a QIP is. And the way it's explained is that a QIP is a familial sole or it's, it's like a soul or something. 00:20:19:16 - 00:20:37:17 Speaker 3 But it, it, it can sometimes be possessed by multiple people or something like that. It's like a familial soul thing. Then QIP is, is just what they call it. It stands. I forget what it stands for, quantum something, particles or something like that. Yeah. 00:20:37:17 - 00:20:41:01 Speaker 1 It gets, it gets really like fantastic science. See again. 00:20:41:01 - 00:21:02:02 Speaker 3 Fantastic dips into sci fi, real horror. It's like it, it's like the meter goes from, like, hard fantasy to hard sci fi. Like in the blink of an eye, it's like, actually, the meter is broken. It doesn't it doesn't go all the way it goes. It's like the little the needle goes down the other way. You don't even notice it. 00:21:02:07 - 00:21:07:03 Speaker 3 It's like a horseshoe theory. But for safe. 00:21:07:03 - 00:21:07:09 Speaker 2 It's. 00:21:12:06 - 00:21:12:18 Speaker 3 So. 00:21:13:11 - 00:21:16:02 Speaker 1 Toxic that it's threatening. 00:21:17:02 - 00:21:19:09 Speaker 3 Is that Jonesy or who is that? 00:21:19:09 - 00:21:21:18 Speaker 1 I'm going to get let me see if Josie wants to upset you. 00:21:21:18 - 00:21:23:07 Speaker 3 Upset me. 00:21:23:21 - 00:21:26:13 Speaker 1 But what you want. 00:21:26:13 - 00:21:26:16 Speaker 2 To. 00:21:27:18 - 00:21:28:10 Speaker 1 Say once again? 00:21:29:06 - 00:21:30:23 Speaker 2 Well, jeez, dude. 00:21:32:01 - 00:21:33:04 Speaker 3 He's very upset. 00:21:33:21 - 00:21:35:10 Speaker 2 He just I think it's just that. 00:21:35:10 - 00:22:06:15 Speaker 1 The doors closed and, you know, ever since we moved, the doors rarely closed. And he doesn't really care for it when we do it on occasion anymore. He is you know, we got him right when COVID started in and we were both working from home. And so he is such a needy monster that we actually had to put him on kitty Prozac when we both started working out of the house again because he lost his mind because he thought we were abandoning em or something. 00:22:07:00 - 00:22:09:04 Speaker 1 And do you know what, Kitty Prozac is? 00:22:10:06 - 00:22:10:21 Speaker 3 Prozac. 00:22:11:07 - 00:22:12:07 Speaker 1 It's Prozac. Yes. 00:22:12:07 - 00:22:14:09 Speaker 2 Just it's just. 00:22:14:09 - 00:22:17:10 Speaker 1 Like it's like a two mg dose of it and sort of. 00:22:17:10 - 00:22:22:03 Speaker 3 Like a euphemism. It's not a euphemism. It's just a low dose Prozac. 00:22:22:14 - 00:22:29:07 Speaker 1 Right. There's there's one animal in this entire house that doesn't need Prozac. And that's the other cat. That's all. That's good. 00:22:29:10 - 00:22:30:00 Speaker 2 That's about. 00:22:31:02 - 00:22:47:06 Speaker 3 Everybody else. Hi, Cat. Jonesy. John, this is like. No, no, you just. Just walk it back and forth. 00:22:47:14 - 00:22:56:19 Speaker 1 He wants he wants me to know he's here. He probably wants to be let out into the garage. He likes hanging out in the garage. Sorry. The cat was threatening me. We can proceed. 00:22:57:13 - 00:23:02:07 Speaker 3 The cat was threatening him, everybody. So that's. Yeah, you heard it here first. 00:23:02:07 - 00:23:04:07 Speaker 1 I'm. I'm under threat of a cat. 00:23:04:07 - 00:23:08:18 Speaker 3 He's under threat by a by a a redheaded cat. 00:23:09:12 - 00:23:10:23 Speaker 1 From a dangerous animal. 00:23:11:16 - 00:23:34:20 Speaker 3 So Cyrus is putting together from his conversations with tell that he is descended from deathless and Issa wakes up from her brief unconsciousness, her comatose state. And they come to an understanding that Issa won't try to kill him anymore and trust has been restored. Dunton added, I'm. 00:23:35:01 - 00:23:36:20 Speaker 1 Sure for some reason. 00:23:37:01 - 00:23:38:15 Speaker 3 For some reason he trusts her again. 00:23:38:21 - 00:23:42:22 Speaker 1 Yeah, I mean, they fought back to back. I suppose that makes some sense. Yeah. 00:23:43:07 - 00:23:47:20 Speaker 3 Yeah, yeah. They went, they went to the back to back stance. I think once you do that. 00:23:48:12 - 00:24:00:15 Speaker 1 It that was actually that is actually how Kevin and I became so close in grad school when we did the back to back fight against a bunch of drills and you know yeah so I shouldn't I shouldn't make them. I understand. 00:24:01:00 - 00:24:04:19 Speaker 3 Yeah. And Savannah, it's actually swamp zombies that yes. 00:24:05:09 - 00:24:09:09 Speaker 1 Appear for the last time. Kevin Those are tourists. 00:24:09:15 - 00:24:10:12 Speaker 2 Those tourists. 00:24:12:00 - 00:24:13:14 Speaker 3 They were just on a ghost tour. 00:24:13:22 - 00:24:15:03 Speaker 2 They just, they just. 00:24:15:07 - 00:24:21:03 Speaker 1 They just they were. They just look like swamps out. 00:24:21:03 - 00:24:28:13 Speaker 3 Yeah. I apologize to the all the people on ghost tours that I killed in Savannah 2007 to 2010. 00:24:29:08 - 00:24:31:11 Speaker 1 Why we ended up leaving we wouldn't. 00:24:31:12 - 00:24:33:04 Speaker 2 We're not coming back that way. 00:24:34:22 - 00:24:38:08 Speaker 1 Nobody will take our money. We are we are banished. 00:24:38:08 - 00:24:49:08 Speaker 3 And we are banished from from from Savannah. The town, the town, the entire town just goes aggro. Once you get run city limits you can't miss. Yeah you can't reset that. 00:24:49:19 - 00:24:50:13 Speaker 2 Yeah you can't. 00:24:50:16 - 00:24:53:14 Speaker 1 You can't fool five stars, right. Oh five. 00:24:53:14 - 00:24:56:07 Speaker 3 Stars over the military gets called in. 00:24:56:15 - 00:24:59:06 Speaker 2 Brighton. 00:24:59:06 - 00:25:02:22 Speaker 3 Got a lilo in the paper factory for a bit. 00:25:04:11 - 00:25:10:22 Speaker 1 Yeah, it is. To distract them with the view explosions that just high tail it to Tybee Island and hope for the best yeah. 00:25:12:07 - 00:25:27:18 Speaker 3 Chapter seven. They decide they're eastern Cyrus have been camped out for a few days. They they just chill. You know, they're they're they're just, you know, hanging out. He says each nomadic cook. 00:25:27:18 - 00:25:47:02 Speaker 1 I love this bird. I just yeah, it was such a nice moment. Like all these, all these, all of his joys outside of the occasional rope swing seem to be centered around food. The few things that he's allowed to have now that he's most excited for food. And so she's helping him to appreciate it better and created it was a really lovely moment. 00:25:47:02 - 00:25:47:09 Speaker 1 I like. 00:25:47:12 - 00:26:08:00 Speaker 3 Yeah, yeah, it's nice. It's like they're bonding and then and then tell comes back to the camp and tells been spying on the deathless palace and says that there's four champions that he would need to fight on the way into the castle and then tell turns into a little plant. 00:26:08:00 - 00:26:11:11 Speaker 2 Kitty Right. It's so weird. 00:26:12:07 - 00:26:16:06 Speaker 1 Tell tells whole thing is strange for the record. Whole thing is. 00:26:16:06 - 00:26:20:10 Speaker 3 Not really I don't get it. I can't even picture really in my head that well. Yeah. 00:26:20:18 - 00:26:21:00 Speaker 2 Yeah. 00:26:21:18 - 00:26:28:14 Speaker 3 Because at this point he was a cloth Gollum, he was just like he was basically. I just imagine that he was a Jawa. 00:26:29:23 - 00:26:32:09 Speaker 2 Yeah. 00:26:32:09 - 00:26:47:13 Speaker 3 And then speaking up. Hello. Hello, Jonesy. And then he, he, he, he drops the cloth esthetic and becomes a cat. A cat made out of plants. 00:26:48:11 - 00:27:05:12 Speaker 1 When I was about the most like anime kind of thing, they could have thrown into it. It was just like immediately I was like, Oh, that's the angle we're going with. Got it. Okay. You feel like I'm following you better now. They should have included a cat plant like way sooner or plant cat, I forget. 00:27:06:04 - 00:27:26:23 Speaker 3 Yeah. Cyrus realizes that since he killed an ancestor of his after killing the God King, the infinity blade might actually be active. And it might be. Might be good to go. And. And did you so did you listen to it? How did they pronounce? The next deathless name was it saying, oh. 00:27:28:00 - 00:27:28:14 Speaker 1 Say it again? 00:27:29:07 - 00:27:30:06 Speaker 3 Was it Sadie? 00:27:30:18 - 00:27:32:17 Speaker 1 Yeah, I think it was Sadie, as I recall. Yeah. 00:27:32:17 - 00:27:46:06 Speaker 3 Okay, Sadie. So they're they're approaching Sadie's castle, and Cyrus is like, oh, shoot, tell I forgot my cloak. Can you go get it? And tells like, oh, boy. 00:27:46:06 - 00:27:47:22 Speaker 1 Yeah, he's got that kind of vibe. 00:27:48:05 - 00:27:49:06 Speaker 3 Oh, jeez. 00:27:49:12 - 00:27:51:00 Speaker 1 Oh, man. Oh. 00:27:52:00 - 00:27:58:18 Speaker 3 Okay. Oh, they're going to they're going to kick my face, right? And they're going to stop. 00:27:59:06 - 00:28:00:09 Speaker 1 It's like kissing a reason. 00:28:01:15 - 00:28:15:19 Speaker 3 They're going to kick you. They're going to call me Rubberneck and live in tech. So that was my impression of what was the, uh, what was those guys that did the prank phone call? 00:28:16:00 - 00:28:16:14 Speaker 1 The Jerky. 00:28:16:14 - 00:28:18:10 Speaker 3 Boys. The Jerky Boys? Yes. 00:28:18:20 - 00:28:22:06 Speaker 1 That one. That one. That's an even deeper older piece. 00:28:22:15 - 00:28:30:17 Speaker 3 That is deeper cut. And I don't recommend anybody go back and listen to them because I have not confirmed how any of these things hold up. 00:28:31:01 - 00:28:34:01 Speaker 1 I do not. I can assure you they do not. 00:28:34:09 - 00:28:45:11 Speaker 3 They it is just a vague memory in the back of my head. Yeah. Yeah. I do not take responsibility for any of the bad aging that might have happened to their content. 00:28:45:13 - 00:28:50:14 Speaker 1 I do not take responsibility for any of the bad parts of the nineties that you'll have to live in the. 00:28:50:15 - 00:28:58:23 Speaker 3 30 years that since. I have listened to 30 years, 30, 1990, 1992 was 30 years ago feel. 00:29:00:23 - 00:29:10:12 Speaker 2 Yeah was I was ten I was eight yeah. Oh God. 00:29:10:12 - 00:29:11:08 Speaker 3 Oh God. 00:29:11:17 - 00:29:13:23 Speaker 1 Yeah, yeah. That happened. Oh, God. 00:29:14:15 - 00:29:19:09 Speaker 3 So, um, forging on through. 00:29:19:22 - 00:29:20:16 Speaker 2 The. 00:29:21:16 - 00:29:24:19 Speaker 3 Ennui that is settling in my soul. Yeah, well. 00:29:25:19 - 00:29:33:05 Speaker 1 It's like, just the rest of it. We just start smoking cigarets and talking about the inevitable void at the end of the tunnel. 00:29:33:15 - 00:29:38:09 Speaker 3 I see. You know, when when you die, there's nothing there. 00:29:38:16 - 00:29:40:20 Speaker 1 There's nothing. It's just not there. I think blackness. 00:29:40:20 - 00:29:43:06 Speaker 3 And that nothingness really stares back at. 00:29:43:06 - 00:29:47:21 Speaker 1 You. If it's true, it's. It's. And it's the only TV show to watch, my friend. 00:29:48:07 - 00:29:50:11 Speaker 3 It's the only. It's the only thing that's left. 00:29:50:18 - 00:29:51:15 Speaker 1 No commercials. 00:29:52:22 - 00:30:03:07 Speaker 3 No commercials. Uh, the void, void TV. All the time. All the time. That's what you're going to be watching at the end of the end of days, my pal. 00:30:03:07 - 00:30:07:09 Speaker 1 The days, my friend. It's just. Just blackness. 00:30:07:09 - 00:30:08:21 Speaker 3 So they purge Sadie's castle? 00:30:09:08 - 00:30:18:00 Speaker 2 Yeah, it is to me, the good book. 00:30:18:00 - 00:30:19:19 Speaker 3 There's no. There's no books in the void. 00:30:20:14 - 00:30:21:00 Speaker 1 None. 00:30:22:08 - 00:30:23:20 Speaker 3 Only Discovery plus. 00:30:25:01 - 00:30:37:06 Speaker 2 Oh, oh, no. Don't mix the vegetables with the gravy mix of vegetables with the crazy. Oh, God. 00:30:38:17 - 00:31:04:00 Speaker 3 Yes. So he just serious does that just to get tell off his back and then he and tells like promise me you won't go and do anything while I'm gone. And Iris is like, I promise. And then Cyrus goes in and it's wild how quickly he fights through all the champions. It's like, yeah, he gets ready. It's like he, he gets ready to kill the first one and then it like, jumps to him killing the last one. 00:31:04:07 - 00:31:04:14 Speaker 3 Right. 00:31:05:09 - 00:31:05:19 Speaker 2 Right. 00:31:06:22 - 00:31:14:11 Speaker 1 Because he was like, because Bryan's Brandon Sanderson was like, Oh, right. I wanted this to be a novella and not like an actual novel. 00:31:14:11 - 00:31:31:18 Speaker 3 Yeah, this is a this is a short story. This is a novel novella. We should we should keep it tight. So we fast forwards, fast forwards, right through all that. And we get to the final champion who's just basically the mountain from Game of Thrones, right? 00:31:31:18 - 00:31:32:01 Speaker 2 Yeah. 00:31:33:13 - 00:32:08:11 Speaker 3 And Cyrus kills him. Uh, he's working. He worked through these dudes, like a hot knife through butter. And then he gets Sadie to tell him where the. The worker of secrets or the. Is it the worker secrets? Yes, the worker secrets is kept inside. He's like, oh, yeah, it's you go down the road and it's over there and there's this prison and then say to you realizes that he's holding the infinity blade and she's like, Oh, fuck, but forget all that because I'm going to kill you right now. 00:32:08:17 - 00:32:15:12 Speaker 3 And she attacks him and she nearly gets the better of him. She nearly, nearly ends him. And he has. 00:32:15:12 - 00:32:18:15 Speaker 1 To only like full, full fight we get you know. 00:32:18:18 - 00:32:24:06 Speaker 3 Yeah, yeah, yeah, totally. It's the only four fire we get in the book. It's the boss fight for the book. 00:32:24:23 - 00:32:28:04 Speaker 1 Right? It's. It's the book books boss. But that's exactly why. 00:32:28:04 - 00:33:00:10 Speaker 3 He has to use he has to use his healing ring to heal himself. And he manages to kill Sadie with the infinity blade. So that's a perma death for this deathless he is. Sadie's down. She's not getting back up. And in in true male gaze fashion. Uh, he notes that she was pretty. Yeah, of course. Yeah. As she lays there, as her body lays lays there dead. 00:33:00:21 - 00:33:08:10 Speaker 3 She like she was kind of pretty and I'm like, cool, cool. This is not information that we actually need at this point. 00:33:08:21 - 00:33:11:12 Speaker 1 Cool. She's dead. Yeah. 00:33:11:19 - 00:33:18:02 Speaker 3 Now she's dead. The shame is. 00:33:18:02 - 00:33:28:10 Speaker 1 And now we did. Did we go over the whole thing with the ring and why our thief friend wasn't able to use it and stuff like that or yeah. 00:33:28:10 - 00:33:42:23 Speaker 3 So he's thinking. So to back up a little bit, um, Cyrus believes that his lineage is that he is descended from the deathless. And that's why the ring works. 00:33:43:13 - 00:33:43:22 Speaker 1 Right? 00:33:43:22 - 00:33:51:14 Speaker 3 It only works for, for people who are, like, even partially related to the deathless. That's right. That's the growing theory at this point. 00:33:52:12 - 00:33:59:02 Speaker 1 Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it kind of picks up on it, tries to get what's her name. 00:33:59:12 - 00:34:01:13 Speaker 3 He tried to get easier to use it when she. 00:34:01:14 - 00:34:04:00 Speaker 1 Used it and she like ran from it like. 00:34:04:00 - 00:34:04:12 Speaker 3 She was like. 00:34:04:12 - 00:34:07:01 Speaker 1 No horrified at the concept of using it. 00:34:07:06 - 00:34:21:00 Speaker 3 Can't do it. Can't do it. It's not going to work at you, you idiot. It's not going to work, you dumb, dumb. And my guts are. My guts are spilling out. It's not going to work, you, you stupid fool. 00:34:21:17 - 00:34:36:16 Speaker 1 But I only ask because I do remember I had to reread parts of it because the way that death, real death works for the death list versus for regular people, I had to I had to go over it again because it wasn't entirely always clear. I'm sure. Yeah. Yeah. 00:34:37:12 - 00:34:45:06 Speaker 3 Um, so Cyrus decides to explore the garden area for loot as one does? 00:34:46:10 - 00:34:46:19 Speaker 2 Yeah. 00:34:47:13 - 00:34:51:10 Speaker 1 The only time she does that, I'm like, Come on, man. Are you an adventure or not or not? 00:34:51:11 - 00:34:53:11 Speaker 2 You're still. 00:34:53:11 - 00:35:17:11 Speaker 3 And he finds this little obelisk with, like, a little, uh, a keyhole in it that's in the shape of the infinity blade. And he's like, Oh, I saw these at the God King's Castle. And and it means that the infinity blade, the key. And he's like, I wonder what happens if I stick the infinity blade in it? So he sticks the infinity blade in it and the thing closes and goes into the ground, taking the infinity blade with it. 00:35:17:19 - 00:35:25:18 Speaker 3 And he starts trying to use the teleport ring and the God King steps out from the shadows like, yeah, that's not going to work, buddy. 00:35:26:08 - 00:35:27:08 Speaker 2 It's totally. 00:35:27:08 - 00:35:33:07 Speaker 1 It's totally his Spaceballs. Like, I can't believe you fell for that man. 00:35:33:07 - 00:35:37:01 Speaker 2 Like, the. 00:35:37:01 - 00:35:43:06 Speaker 3 Guy is played by, as played by Rick Moranis. 00:35:43:06 - 00:35:50:00 Speaker 1 It's totally that moment and he deserves it because for God's sake, that is stupid shit. 00:35:50:03 - 00:35:51:14 Speaker 2 He's like, No, no, no, no. 00:35:51:14 - 00:35:52:15 Speaker 3 No, I'll give it back to you. 00:35:52:15 - 00:35:59:13 Speaker 2 Will No, exactly. It. 00:35:59:13 - 00:36:04:22 Speaker 1 Like, next time we're going to put an obelisk up there, it's going to be shaped just like your penis and balls. 00:36:05:05 - 00:36:10:12 Speaker 2 Yeah, that goes. He didn't. 00:36:10:14 - 00:36:15:10 Speaker 1 Yeah, this is this. This guy was trained since birth to be a killer, not a thinker. 00:36:15:18 - 00:36:28:01 Speaker 3 Not a thinker. And then the God Kings, like, he's like Cyrus is like, Oh, you sent that Gollum to spy on me and the God Kings. Like, I don't know who sent that Gollum. 00:36:28:01 - 00:36:28:06 Speaker 2 Yeah. 00:36:28:13 - 00:36:36:22 Speaker 3 I. I didn't need anyone to spy on you because the dumb ring that you're wearing transmits everything. Every dumb thing you say back to me. 00:36:36:23 - 00:36:40:00 Speaker 2 Yeah. And you got. 00:36:40:00 - 00:36:43:14 Speaker 3 Things like I've known where you are the entire time. 00:36:45:05 - 00:36:50:14 Speaker 1 This is the part of the book that I really thought to myself. I was like, Am I pulling for the wrong guy? 00:36:51:01 - 00:36:57:20 Speaker 2 But I was just a fucking idiot like everyone. Oh, he's got. 00:36:58:02 - 00:37:02:03 Speaker 1 The God King is smarter than everyone. Like you're just, oh, yeah, you lose. 00:37:02:03 - 00:37:03:15 Speaker 2 That's what happens. 00:37:03:15 - 00:37:04:01 Speaker 1 Next. 00:37:04:09 - 00:37:24:21 Speaker 3 He's like, I and I love a good, competent villain where the God kings like the God kings like I hate you are like stupid. I had you at every every single turn. This is all me you had? No. You had no agency in this. 00:37:25:10 - 00:37:28:14 Speaker 1 I was always in control, you fucking idiot. Yeah. 00:37:28:20 - 00:37:31:06 Speaker 2 Yeah. It's the end of seven. 00:37:31:06 - 00:37:37:19 Speaker 1 Except of, you know, someone's head in a box. He's got the sword underground. You lose. 00:37:38:03 - 00:37:39:20 Speaker 3 John Doe has the upper hand. 00:37:40:04 - 00:37:45:00 Speaker 2 Yes. God has the upper hand. What's in the bags? 00:37:45:16 - 00:37:47:09 Speaker 3 So for you kids at home. 00:37:47:16 - 00:37:52:22 Speaker 2 Seven. 00:37:52:22 - 00:37:54:19 Speaker 1 David Fincher used to be a director. 00:37:55:18 - 00:38:04:02 Speaker 3 You see, David Fincher used to make things and my God, do you ever watch Mindhunter? 00:38:04:22 - 00:38:13:19 Speaker 1 I watched the first couple of seasons. I liked it, but not enough to, like, be really bummed out when it got canceled and everything. Well, that's the. 00:38:13:19 - 00:38:15:13 Speaker 3 Thing is it's not canceled. 00:38:16:04 - 00:38:17:11 Speaker 2 Now. It's just kind. 00:38:17:11 - 00:38:18:17 Speaker 1 Of perpetually on hold. 00:38:18:17 - 00:38:25:03 Speaker 3 Right now, it's on hold. It's basically on hold until David Fincher feels like making more cool. 00:38:25:03 - 00:38:34:06 Speaker 1 Real cool with you. David Fincher also, what a boy, what a generous God our David Fincher is like. 00:38:35:06 - 00:38:36:00 Speaker 2 Oh. 00:38:36:21 - 00:38:46:14 Speaker 1 We don't pay for all due respect, that on a certain level it's like, I'm not a fucking monkey. But at the same time, like, Come on, man, you committed to a TV show, make the fucking show or you make somebody else. 00:38:47:00 - 00:38:52:05 Speaker 3 Let somebody else play with. Yeah, let them ruin it. You don't have to be the one ruining it. 00:38:53:00 - 00:38:57:00 Speaker 1 You are going to ruin it eventually. We all know that. That's just let someone else ruin it. 00:38:57:11 - 00:38:58:17 Speaker 3 No That's. 00:38:59:00 - 00:39:01:01 Speaker 2 Yeah. So. 00:39:01:10 - 00:39:02:22 Speaker 1 Mindhunter, the Snyder cut. 00:39:03:13 - 00:39:04:04 Speaker 2 This night. 00:39:04:21 - 00:39:16:04 Speaker 3 Is presented in four by three to respect the art. There is. 00:39:16:04 - 00:39:16:14 Speaker 2 I hate. 00:39:16:14 - 00:39:17:11 Speaker 1 Entertainment. 00:39:17:11 - 00:39:20:10 Speaker 2 I just. I red tape. 00:39:20:12 - 00:39:31:21 Speaker 1 It's stupid these days. Oh, wait. God, it's supposed to be a video game novelization podcast. 00:39:31:21 - 00:39:34:21 Speaker 3 What do you. Yeah. Why do you think we have a show? 00:39:35:09 - 00:39:39:23 Speaker 1 I don't know. I'm just. I'm just. I just. I just, like, biting the hand that feeds me. What could I. 00:39:40:03 - 00:39:45:12 Speaker 3 It constantly, you know, that's just this is take a little nibble of that of that hand. 00:39:45:22 - 00:39:47:01 Speaker 1 Little nibble every now and then. 00:39:47:18 - 00:39:48:07 Speaker 3 Or. 00:39:51:00 - 00:39:53:09 Speaker 2 Okay so great we. 00:39:56:18 - 00:40:20:06 Speaker 3 So so basically the God King starts calling Cyrus a different name author and it's about to kill him with the infinity blade. And wouldn't you know, it isa shows up and looks like, oh, she's going to save him, right? She's going to shoot the God King in the back and said, Isa shoots Cyrus in the fucking head. 00:40:20:12 - 00:40:21:04 Speaker 1 Just like. 00:40:21:20 - 00:40:29:21 Speaker 3 With a bullet right between the eyes just kills them dead. And chapter eight is it begins with the God King being like, What the fuck? 00:40:30:09 - 00:40:36:07 Speaker 2 Yeah, but was that. 00:40:36:07 - 00:40:44:15 Speaker 3 And he's like, Yeah, like, all right, you know, all right, go after her, get some guys together and burn this body. 00:40:44:15 - 00:40:44:19 Speaker 2 Yeah. 00:40:44:19 - 00:41:20:23 Speaker 3 Uh, all right, whatever. And he. God king leaves with the infinity blade, and. And then Cyrus wakes up in the rebirth recuperation chambers. And this is kind of where things begin to unravel pretty fast for like, early knowledge of who Cyrus is. So basically he knew that Cyrus was a death, was like she put it together really early on and didn't was being really coy about it. 00:41:21:09 - 00:41:53:11 Speaker 3 That's why he could use the rings. And she she was like, You idiot, I can't use the ring. And it's not that he is descended from deathless. He is a deathless one of the original deathless by the name of officer. And he begins to have all these memories start start flooding back. And the dark thoughts that he's been having, they weren't from the infinity blade. 00:41:53:11 - 00:42:02:07 Speaker 3 Those were the thoughts of his real self. Yeah. Break breaking through the illusion of who he thought he was. 00:42:02:07 - 00:42:26:13 Speaker 1 Yeah. Every, every time he started to think like she's laughing at you, kill her or like they're they're mocking you. Destroy them. It was not the corrupt influence of the infinity blade. It was him. It was the actual him. Trying it like trying to come through. He was he was not a good dude, you know, at both points in his life. 00:42:27:18 - 00:42:32:16 Speaker 3 Yeah. Orser was was not only a deathless, but one of the worst. 00:42:33:07 - 00:42:37:18 Speaker 2 Yeah, yeah. 00:42:37:18 - 00:43:00:07 Speaker 3 So Isa had gathered his remains, basically. It was just like a burnt, crispy body. And brought him into the recuperation chamber. And it's been weeks. Weeks have passed and he has just been kind of hanging out there. But Cyrus is like, all right, let's let's continue our adventure. And he says like. 00:43:01:02 - 00:43:01:19 Speaker 2 Oh. 00:43:02:02 - 00:43:15:05 Speaker 3 I don't I don't think I do. I want to I'm going to take my leave because you are one of those people that does crazy shit. The dead guys. 00:43:15:05 - 00:43:15:12 Speaker 2 Yeah. 00:43:15:21 - 00:43:24:23 Speaker 3 Just like kill a town because you're bored type of shit. So I'm going to go and easily, right? 00:43:25:07 - 00:43:27:20 Speaker 2 That he says, as. 00:43:28:15 - 00:43:35:07 Speaker 1 She does the most levelheaded thing of anyone in this book and says, Thank you. Moving on. 00:43:35:11 - 00:43:36:19 Speaker 3 Moving on. 00:43:36:19 - 00:43:37:00 Speaker 1 Yeah. 00:43:37:17 - 00:44:08:12 Speaker 3 So I'm out of here. Piece. Then Tell comes back and starts explaining a little bit more about how it works. How awesome. I wanted to get the infinity blade from the God King. I forget the God King's real name. They mentioned it a few times and he would he would fight the God King and then tell would gather basically his soul and bring it back to the town. 00:44:08:23 - 00:44:27:14 Speaker 3 And he would hypnotize some woman who had just given birth or something like that and put the soul into a baby's body and make the the woman think that she was the mother of this baby or something it was something like that. 00:44:27:23 - 00:44:38:05 Speaker 1 Yeah. Basically, just find a new mom every time he dies and just and have someone raise him, you know, like. Like that. Yeah. Yeah. 00:44:38:06 - 00:45:07:07 Speaker 3 And so his memories will be wiped in between each life. So the only thing he really remembers is spirit being Cyrus like this 20 years and some cracks of who officer is like his actual memories. Yeah. And every time until says every time you resurrect from this point forward you're going to risk bringing back more and more. 00:45:07:08 - 00:45:07:23 Speaker 2 Of. 00:45:08:10 - 00:45:29:13 Speaker 3 Officers memories like that. That part of your personality is going to take more and more control. The real you quote unquote, the walls become thinner. Yeah. So and and that's that's pretty much it. That's like. 00:45:29:13 - 00:45:29:19 Speaker 2 Yeah. 00:45:30:12 - 00:45:31:11 Speaker 3 Let's see it. That's where the. 00:45:31:11 - 00:45:33:17 Speaker 2 Book. Yeah, yeah. 00:45:33:17 - 00:45:39:10 Speaker 1 It's just this realization of what he is now and yeah. 00:45:39:21 - 00:45:50:07 Speaker 3 Like it's pretty good for part one of a of a like I don't know just the other novella pick up after this or is. 00:45:51:10 - 00:45:53:18 Speaker 1 It better it it goddamn better. 00:45:55:09 - 00:45:55:17 Speaker 2 That. 00:45:56:08 - 00:46:09:19 Speaker 1 Because yeah this is this is like there's a cliffhanger and then there's like this. It's like Jesus Christ guy. Like it. It was. Yeah, it's it's a weird choice. 00:46:09:19 - 00:46:14:21 Speaker 3 It's more than a cliffhanger. It's. It's like an entire worlds hanger. 00:46:15:12 - 00:46:17:20 Speaker 1 Real world down here. You heard your. 00:46:17:20 - 00:46:19:06 Speaker 3 First world hanger. 00:46:19:09 - 00:46:20:09 Speaker 1 World hanger. 00:46:20:09 - 00:46:27:12 Speaker 3 Not just one closet. All all the cliffs in the entire planet. That's what we're hanging off of right. 00:46:27:12 - 00:46:28:23 Speaker 1 Now, right? Yeah, exactly. 00:46:28:23 - 00:46:48:13 Speaker 3 It changes the entire perception of the character and the world that's in the I really I had a lot of fun with this. It packed more into a short novella than some of the books we've read, packed into it. You know, three times the length. 00:46:48:23 - 00:47:25:17 Speaker 1 Oh, without question. Without question. I feel the same way. I think it was just expertly written, very creative. It went in directions you didn't expect the light and dark, the background, the humor. I will say one thing, though, it's kind of funny because if this is we've talked many times on this show about when the author is allowed to just play and and that kind of thing, and that that's when you really get a story that kind of shines. 00:47:25:17 - 00:47:52:04 Speaker 1 That's different from the game that you can really sink your teeth into. Yeah. With a game like Infinity Blade, there's so little there that this, for all intents and purposes, did not need to be based on a game show. You know, the fact that it is based on a game, it's almost like you could have had this written and then tweaked a few things to make it tied in with the game and it would have serviced perfectly well. 00:47:52:12 - 00:47:59:14 Speaker 1 So I mean, I love it, but I'm I'm not going to give too many bonus points on adaptation, if that makes sense. 00:48:00:01 - 00:48:02:10 Speaker 3 Sure. Yeah, that makes sense. 00:48:02:21 - 00:48:03:06 Speaker 1 Yeah. 00:48:04:12 - 00:48:25:15 Speaker 3 But yeah, yeah. No, I agree. I agree. And I just looked it up. And then the other one, redemption is takes place between infinity blade two and three. So whatever plot lines are left hanging, I assume are answered by fruit ninja knights quests number two. 00:48:25:20 - 00:48:30:05 Speaker 2 Right, exactly. 00:48:30:05 - 00:48:43:00 Speaker 1 Now that's true. That's true. I never played Infinity Blade two, so maybe this actually is very elegantly tied into the second one. Yeah. Yeah, that, that's a good point. So there. 00:48:43:00 - 00:48:57:10 Speaker 3 Might and I think that's the thing is Infinity Blade two for the most part is lost media now I mean you can't there's no real way there are some like yard sale or high seas Mercedes ways to get so weird. 00:48:57:20 - 00:49:01:20 Speaker 1 So weird sounds you made there. Kevin I don't I don't know where that could possibly symbolize. 00:49:02:16 - 00:49:05:18 Speaker 3 You're. 00:49:05:18 - 00:49:06:06 Speaker 2 You're. 00:49:06:10 - 00:49:07:06 Speaker 3 Yeah. So. 00:49:07:17 - 00:49:08:09 Speaker 2 Ooh. 00:49:08:21 - 00:49:42:10 Speaker 3 There's some ways to get to like that, but otherwise yeah, I think, I think it's supposed to tie in, dovetail into whatever's happening in Infinity Blade two. Right. And it's really unfortunate that that's a piece of lost media now because for as much as yeah. As much as I like it and I guess that's the thing with tie in novelization is, is is you can't it can't it's not always going to stand on its own, you know, and this clearly doesn't necessarily stand on its own. 00:49:42:10 - 00:50:00:17 Speaker 3 It's, it's part of a bridge story. It's, it's, it's just take you from the first game to the second game, but goddamn it takes you to the first game and is set in the second game in a way that I'll say Infinity Blade probably never really deserved. 00:50:01:12 - 00:50:01:18 Speaker 2 No. 00:50:02:05 - 00:50:03:15 Speaker 1 Probably not. 00:50:03:15 - 00:50:15:04 Speaker 3 I mean, simply Infinity Blade was really cool and the cat's pajamas. But but in terms of what it was. Yeah, it's. It's it's pretty extra fair. 00:50:15:05 - 00:50:36:10 Speaker 1 It's yeah, they, they, they really it was a fun game. It was an amazing demonstration of what games can be on a mobile phone and stuff like that. It, it was, you know, in its own way. It really was an extraordinary piece of tech. But but SWAT, they didn't have to come this hard with the storyline. 00:50:36:16 - 00:50:53:16 Speaker 3 I think also it demonstrates why Brandon Sanderson has become basically the fucking guy right over the last decade and a half has become. In terms of your fantasy fiction writers, Brandon Sanderson is the guy, you know. 00:50:54:02 - 00:51:06:01 Speaker 1 Oh yeah, he's the dude par excellence. Like there's there's just no there's no getting around it. He is probably the biggest modern fantasy writer alive right now. So yeah, that's yeah. Makes a lot of sense. 00:51:06:10 - 00:51:19:19 Speaker 3 Yeah. I mean we've, we've reached out to his, his people to see if we can, we can get him on the show. I mean, we, we shoot our shots. We're not we're not afraid of, of, of asking people to come on the show and talk to them. 00:51:19:19 - 00:51:21:13 Speaker 1 We try goddammit. We try. 00:51:21:13 - 00:51:27:06 Speaker 3 We tried. And so that's kind of just in process right now. 00:51:27:07 - 00:51:30:02 Speaker 2 So yeah, yeah, we'll see. 00:51:30:08 - 00:51:35:12 Speaker 3 We'll see. As of right now, I'm saying it seems unlikely, but we're trying. Yeah. 00:51:37:01 - 00:51:41:10 Speaker 1 I, I'm an optimistic man and even I'm like, I'm not sure this. 00:51:41:10 - 00:51:41:13 Speaker 2 Is. 00:51:42:19 - 00:51:43:19 Speaker 1 Fun. We'll see. 00:51:44:04 - 00:51:45:14 Speaker 3 We'll see. 00:51:45:19 - 00:51:50:06 Speaker 1 We reach out to Brandon Sanderson's people if you want to see him on our show, ladies and gentlemen. 00:51:50:06 - 00:51:54:05 Speaker 3 ALL Yeah. Flood, don't do that. Don't tell them they sent you, though. 00:51:54:10 - 00:51:54:23 Speaker 1 Yeah, I would. 00:51:54:23 - 00:52:01:01 Speaker 3 Might act like you don't actually like you don't know us. Just say random. You want to be you want him to be on the show. 00:52:01:11 - 00:52:03:09 Speaker 1 Right? Just just casually mention. 00:52:04:02 - 00:52:27:07 Speaker 3 Let's actually mention it. So that's, that's infinity blade awakening that will probably get around to infinity blade redemption at some point, I'm sure. And I would love, love to figure out a way to to to fly the fly the black flag and and and roam the high seas and play infinity blade. 00:52:28:13 - 00:52:43:11 Speaker 1 And so would I. That is it. I do remember it being a really excellent game for for for your mobile like it really was a fun damn game. So yeah, fingers crossed. That's something we could find in the near future on the high seas. 00:52:43:20 - 00:52:59:10 Speaker 3 Or our flag emulation. Speaking of emulation, Phil, what are you playing? 00:53:00:08 - 00:53:19:22 Speaker 1 Oh, I am actually between a little a little touch of the Rona and, and my my computer being I am going on a I am going on a what is it Theseus. A ship. 00:53:20:08 - 00:53:22:09 Speaker 3 Yeah. Yeah. Ship. Theseus, yeah. 00:53:22:14 - 00:53:44:14 Speaker 1 Ship of Theseus. Journey right now. Where piece by piece my computer is not the one I started with. So and between that and frankly, even if I had had all the pieces I needed, I've been laid up in bed for for almost a week, but I've been doing a lot of reading if that. Oh. 00:53:44:21 - 00:53:50:08 Speaker 3 Yeah. So hold on, hold on. What are you reading. 00:53:50:08 - 00:53:53:05 Speaker 2 Oh I well, I mean it was a, this. 00:53:53:05 - 00:53:55:09 Speaker 1 Is a literary podcast. Winds up by reading every now and then. 00:53:55:20 - 00:53:56:13 Speaker 2 Uh, yeah. 00:53:58:06 - 00:53:59:03 Speaker 1 Time to time. 00:53:59:06 - 00:54:03:15 Speaker 3 From time to time. You mean it's not 90% of what we do already, right? 00:54:04:10 - 00:54:04:19 Speaker 2 What are the. 00:54:04:23 - 00:54:07:12 Speaker 1 What are the books that I'm reading that aren't for this show. 00:54:07:12 - 00:54:12:00 Speaker 3 What are the yeah. What are the non pixel it books that are on the list right now. 00:54:12:20 - 00:54:17:15 Speaker 1 I just, I don't remember if I told you that I fully finished House of Leaves. 00:54:17:23 - 00:54:19:04 Speaker 3 Oh, yes. 00:54:19:04 - 00:54:47:15 Speaker 1 Yeah, yeah. That one. I will say I get why it is such a for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, House of Leaves is this really dense, big book that came out in the mid 2000. And it's kind of a horror story about this guy who lives in a home where this that that has a maze inside of it that just pops up one day and it goes on forever and the house shifts and collapses in itself. 00:54:47:21 - 00:55:09:08 Speaker 1 And as you're reading about that, you're getting footnotes from this other guy who's giving you insights mostly into his own life, let's say. And then you're getting footnotes on that guy and you end up reading the book in this very strange order. You go back and forth with footnotes and appendices, and basically reading the book in and of itself is like a maze and a labyrinth. 00:55:09:19 - 00:55:33:19 Speaker 1 And it is it's something that horror geeks and lit geeks talk about all the time. But this is a very unique book. And so having read it, it took me like a month and a half to fully read and and I'm a pretty quick reader and it took forever. And it's one of those things that I totally see why everyone talks about as much as they do. 00:55:33:19 - 00:55:51:07 Speaker 1 It's a it's a fascinating idea. I'm done with it. I'm fine with being done with it. I've heard from a lot of people where they were like, oh, this is this actually might be the kind of book that you end up coming back to over and over and over again, because some get really obsessed with it and really read between the lines and all that. 00:55:51:07 - 00:55:53:21 Speaker 1 So I don't think I'm going to be one of those people. 00:55:55:08 - 00:55:55:13 Speaker 2 And. 00:55:56:14 - 00:56:24:23 Speaker 1 I'm glad I read the book. I'm grateful for it existing. I gave it a solid three and a half stars out of five. There you go. It didn't suck my my life up in that sense. And then after that, I ended up I've just been reading like novellas, like I've been devouring like quick books, ten press is this indie horror press that they've only existed for like a couple of years, I think. 00:56:25:04 - 00:56:52:11 Speaker 1 And they released two novellas this year and I read both of them and one of them is called More. It just came out. It's a really fantastic full horror body horror mermaid story. It was really spooky and really good and about 100 pages long and it's real nice. Quick read. And then I read one hand to hold, one hand to carve, which is first off, just a great God damn title. 00:56:52:15 - 00:57:17:06 Speaker 1 And it is this and it's also about 100 pages long and it's this body horror satire in a way which it's about this body that's been bisected, split down the middle, and the body wakes up in a morgue. And both sides are two different people. Basically, there's left and there's right and it's like they're twins and they escape to the morgue. 00:57:17:06 - 00:57:43:11 Speaker 1 And slowly another side of them grows in. And it's about their relationship. And it's really strange and horrific and kind of really sad and beautiful at the same time. It's such a strange book and it's about codependency and relationships and why we love the people we love and family. And and also about two corpses that come to life. 00:57:44:13 - 00:57:58:15 Speaker 1 And like, it's weird. It's a it's a it's a weird and I loved it. I loved it. I'm just I'm really getting into the idea of finding these cool, small indie presses and, like, supporting them and reading the work. 00:57:59:00 - 00:58:01:12 Speaker 3 So it's kind of. Breus ten or Burroughs ten, Birch Press. 00:58:01:12 - 00:58:19:20 Speaker 1 I, I'm going to they've got another book coming out soon. They've got a couple of other books that are already out that I'm definitely going to pick up. Like I am smitten with these guys. I think they're they're outstanding. They're definitely worth a look. So that's that's where I've been reading. What, what are you playing? Slash Reading? Kevin, what. 00:58:19:20 - 00:58:32:03 Speaker 3 Am I what am I playing? I have not read anything other than Infinity Blade. Well, fair enough. We've been reading. But what about Barry? What have I been playing? I've been playing Weird West. 00:58:32:16 - 00:58:33:15 Speaker 2 Oh, yeah. 00:58:33:15 - 00:58:36:00 Speaker 1 You were talking about this. Tell us about Weird West. 00:58:36:00 - 00:59:07:01 Speaker 3 Weird West is an immersive sim. Basically the vibe you get from it is it's like a fallout one into where real time combat instead of turn based but it the sounds and the towns and all that stuff they feel it gives you very, very fallout vibes but yeah Weird West is it's set in like a fictional version of the West. 00:59:08:00 - 00:59:25:23 Speaker 3 There's a fictional religion, there's like so much there's so much lore and backstory to the game. Everything is original to the game. There's no there's no it's not there's no Christianity. There's like some other, like religions that they. 00:59:25:23 - 00:59:29:10 Speaker 1 Is it a state like United States or is it just like a fictional. 00:59:29:10 - 00:59:57:05 Speaker 3 There's no there's no reference to the United States. You're just out in the West and. It's basically the old west. And that's that's it's actually the map is actually procedural. So every time you get when you start the game, it generated changes where the towns locations are and the names of some of the towns and all of the characters, all of the non key characters. 00:59:57:12 - 01:00:23:06 Speaker 3 They'll have different names and different portraits and and models and all that stuff when you, if you restart your game. So from, from person to person you're going to have a different experience than I have. I mean, there is there is it is a linear story. That's the thing. That's the interesting thing about it. It's a linear story that's told across five journeys. 01:00:23:15 - 01:00:45:12 Speaker 3 So you play players five different characters, but you play them in order. The first one is this bounty hunter and the game starts. It's not a spoiler. The game basically starts with her waking up from this dream where she where a character is tied to a chair and getting branded and she wakes up with the brand on her neck. 01:00:46:09 - 01:01:14:19 Speaker 3 But outside, when she's waking up, her husband is being kidnaped and her son is shot dead. So you play this this this woman who was a bounty hunter who needs to pick up her iron again and go out into the into the weird west and try to find her her kidnaped husband. And it gets it gets there's a lot of neat, weird stuff. 01:01:14:19 - 01:01:45:12 Speaker 3 There's there's, you know, werewolves and and Pigman and it's it's it's neat. I like it. And and anything everything you do has an effect on the world around you. And it's like the immersive sim part of it. So if you there. So I ended up restarting my playthrough just because I realized there's a bunch of stuff that I had hadn't really paid attention to and I kind of missed. 01:01:45:12 - 01:02:12:17 Speaker 3 And I want to, I want to really lean into it, but I played through the first journey with the Bounty Hunter, and at the end of the first journey, I left some guy alive, a particular villain. I never really had a confrontation with him. I left him alive. So when I started the second journey, he was part of the plot. 01:02:12:17 - 01:02:44:21 Speaker 3 In the second journey, like he was, he kept being mentions and the gang that he ran would keep popping up in the news as having like rated another town. And I was like, So wait a minute. If I had killed him in the first journey, he would not be a part of the plot. In the second journey. And there would be no mentions of this gang still being and like still being out there because the gang is is you can get like stopped in on the ride from one town to another. 01:02:45:05 - 01:03:08:01 Speaker 3 The gang might stop you occasionally and try to try to kill you. So there's also a vendetta system? Yeah, there's also this vendetta system where if you get into a confrontation with a gang and you, like, kill a few of them, but one of them escapes, the one that escapes might now have a vendetta against you. And you can be anywhere. 01:03:08:08 - 01:03:18:22 Speaker 3 You could just be like on another mission and suddenly it'll pop up and I will say Vendetta. And this person will show up with their own, like, posse. Now to try to kill you. 01:03:19:11 - 01:03:19:17 Speaker 2 Yeah. 01:03:20:19 - 01:03:22:09 Speaker 3 It's really needs. 01:03:23:11 - 01:03:24:18 Speaker 1 That is. There's cool. 01:03:25:06 - 01:03:43:11 Speaker 3 There's so much neat thought to the game. The game, like the controls are a little fiddly to get used to at the beginning. And it was one of those games that was I, I couldn't really gel with it on a controller. It was like once I switched over to mouse and keyboard, I'm like, okay, yeah, I'm fine, I'm good. 01:03:43:11 - 01:03:48:20 Speaker 3 Yeah. But yeah, Weird West. I highly recommend it. 01:03:49:06 - 01:03:49:16 Speaker 1 When it. 01:03:51:02 - 01:03:56:19 Speaker 3 Came out. I want to say in this like March, April timeframe. 01:03:56:19 - 01:03:57:18 Speaker 1 Okay, but this but this. 01:03:57:18 - 01:03:58:02 Speaker 2 Maybe. 01:03:58:13 - 01:04:00:01 Speaker 3 This year, I think. Okay. 01:04:00:03 - 01:04:08:21 Speaker 1 All right. Yeah, I think build on it. You texted me and said that you weren't sure if it would be something I would like with it, that I'm going to have to give that a try. That sounds really cool. 01:04:09:07 - 01:04:10:20 Speaker 2 Yeah. Um. 01:04:11:06 - 01:04:42:06 Speaker 3 And something that just caught my eye. So we're recording this in early August, and now that I'm currently on a Western game, kick hard west who just came out today? Oh, well, there you go. Hard West, the heart. The first hard west if in case you're unfamiliar is a it's basically cowboys and as XCOM like yeah you're yeah it's an XCOM game but with with in the old west I. 01:04:42:06 - 01:04:47:08 Speaker 1 Remember when you played the first one and you were just like you were really smitten with it. You liked that one a lot. 01:04:47:08 - 01:04:55:17 Speaker 3 Yeah, yeah. So hard. Hard West two is out weird like just get all the west game it has West's in the title I'm it's it's probably. 01:04:55:17 - 01:04:55:22 Speaker 2 Good. 01:04:56:21 - 01:04:58:03 Speaker 1 I love it I love it. 01:04:58:03 - 01:05:00:13 Speaker 3 And vampire survivor's updated today. 01:05:01:15 - 01:05:03:01 Speaker 1 Is it the final update. 01:05:03:08 - 01:05:04:05 Speaker 3 No it's not. 01:05:04:19 - 01:05:06:15 Speaker 2 That. Are you talking about. 01:05:07:00 - 01:05:18:19 Speaker 3 It's it's it's blue balls. It's version 0.10 point zero. And I was like, I thought you had to go to one after point nine. And apparently you don't. 01:05:19:16 - 01:05:21:12 Speaker 2 It's not it's not. 01:05:23:06 - 01:05:27:05 Speaker 1 We're just going to be in this loop forever. They're going to be 500,000, achieve months. 01:05:27:11 - 01:05:30:09 Speaker 3 Yeah. They this this update added to achievements. 01:05:30:20 - 01:05:35:13 Speaker 1 What am I planning about? I'm going to die. I'm going to fucking love this game forever. 01:05:35:16 - 01:05:41:11 Speaker 3 You're going to fire. You're going to have fire. That's the first thing you're going to play when you fire your your ship of Theseus. 01:05:43:01 - 01:05:50:06 Speaker 1 Yeah, I'm going to this. This brand new video card, new ram, new everything. And I'm going to and I'm going to fire up a new processor. 01:05:50:09 - 01:05:51:10 Speaker 3 New motherboard. 01:05:51:12 - 01:05:53:21 Speaker 1 Processor. Oh, my God. Yeah. 01:05:54:06 - 01:05:57:07 Speaker 3 The only thing that's staying the same is the case. 01:05:57:07 - 01:05:59:16 Speaker 1 The case and the memory itself. 01:06:00:10 - 01:06:01:09 Speaker 3 And the hard drive. 01:06:01:09 - 01:06:02:10 Speaker 1 Yeah, the hard drive. 01:06:02:10 - 01:06:05:20 Speaker 2 Yeah, it.
